Male, female, young or old, air-cooled or water-cooled, VWs have struck a chord with customers and continue to do so. True,
the two groups are different, but they are still strong supporters of the aftermarket. It's no surprise VW is now using a
talking air-cooled Bug named Max to help sell its new water-cooled cars.
"The linkage of Max to our current product line expands the appeal of the brand, says Jim Gill, head of product and technology
public relations communications for Volkswagen of America Inc. "The iconic Beetle serves as a halo for our brand. Max represents
heritage, character, fun, a bridge to the future possibilities. It crosses demographic lines, and its universal appeal has
effectively woven the brand into the collective American consciousness. It puts a recognizable face on our affordable, fun
to drive, environmentally responsible vehicles."
It also keeps customers clamoring to personalize their VWs, new and old.
"As fuel prices continue to rise, car companies that produce highly efficient and exciting vehicles will re-emerge to capture
market share," predicts Neuspeed's Chuan. "Based on what we have seen so far, VW is in a great position to take advantage,
while bringing the faithful VW aftermarket with it!"
As Tom Lieb of Scat says, "Once bitten by the Bug, they always come back."
